Your author identity is the personality you project to your audience. It’s not just your biography or your genre—it’s the unique essence that readers associate with your name.

Start with Your “Why”
Ask yourself:
● Why do I write?
● Who am I writing for?
● What do I want readers to feel or think after
engaging with my work?

Your “why” becomes the emotional anchor of your brand. It should be clear, consistent, and visible in everything from your bio to your book blurbs.

Clarify Your Core Themes
Look at your body of work or the book you’re launching. What themes emerge consistently?
Whether it’s resilience, transformation, mystery, empowerment, or romance—your themes help
readers connect with you on a deeper level.

Pro tip: Choose 3-5 core values or
themes that define your author identity.
Refer to these often in your messaging.

Your Voice Is Your Signature
Your writing voice and your branding voice should match. Are you witty and conversational? Serious and scholarly? Raw and poetic? This tone should carry through from your author bio to your social media captions and media appearances.

Author Bio Matters More Than You Think
Your bio should be short, strategic, and infused with personality. Use it to establish credibility and relatability. Include your accomplishments, but also include something memorable—like a quirky hobby or a surprising fact—that helps people feel like they know you
