I’ve seen authors do some amazing things.
Some create multiple editions of their books—hardcovers in elegant colors, special prints available only through their websites, even collector’s versions wrapped in gold foil and creativity. Others have landed incredible distribution deals, placing their books in major retail stores and independent shops across the country.
I’ve watched authors go on national book tours, sit on panels with celebrities, and appear on just about every TV network you can imagine. Some have even carried their books across oceans, building international readerships and global exposure.
And as a publisher, watching this unfold has been nothing short of inspiring. The dedication, the ingenuity, the unstoppable drive—it’s a sight to behold.
But here’s what I’ve learned through it all: as an author, you have to stay in your own lane.
The Beauty of Your Own Lane
The author world is wide. There’s no shortage of opportunity, and there’s definitely no shortage of readers. There are billions of people on this planet—each one with their own interests, passions, and stories they’re waiting to discover.
You don’t have to compete to be seen.
You don’t have to compare to be validated.
You simply have to show up—authentically, creatively, and confidently.
It’s okay to be inspired by the authors who are out there shining. In fact, it’s healthy. Let their success spark your creativity, but not your comparison. Take note of what works—but then ask yourself, “How can I make this mine?”
The Power of Originality
Your lane is where your genius lives. It’s where your stories, your lessons, and your vision can breathe without the noise of competition. When you honor that lane—your pace, your process, your passion—you give yourself permission to build something that lasts.
You may not be on television (yet). You may not have your books in every store (yet). But what you do have is purpose. You have the voice, the creativity, and the freedom to build your author journey on your own terms.
Here’s the Truth
There’s enough room for every author to shine. Enough readers to go around. Enough space for each story to make an impact.
So, celebrate the success of others—but don’t let it distract you from the masterpiece you’re creating. Because when you focus on your lane, your light gets brighter. Your message grows stronger. And your readers—your right readers—will find you.
Keep writing. Keep blooming. Stay in your lane.
